UNSW Esme Timbery Creative Lab – Mural Installation

Project Overview: The “In Her Hands” mural is a powerful and meaningful installation at the UNSW Esme Timbery Creative Lab, celebrating the legacy of Bidjigal artist Esme Timbery. This artwork was designed by a talented trio of Art & Design alumni—Dennis Golding, Kirra Weingarth, and Carmen Glynn-Braun—and pays tribute to Esme’s rich cultural contributions as an Aboriginal elder. The mural also highlights the continuing Indigenous cultural practices that have been passed down through generations.
The mural was meticulously painted by Jo Breneger (Indigo Jo Signs) and Leia Sidery, further elevating the mural’s significance through their expert skills and commitment to respectful representation.
Project Details: Commissioned by UNSW for their Esme Timbery Creative Practice Lab, “In Her Hands” is more than just a mural—it’s a narrative of cultural connection and community. The design reflects the importance of Aboriginal heritage, honouring the wisdom and creativity passed through generations of Indigenous peoples. The project celebrates the influence of Esme Timbery’s work, providing a space where her spirit and cultural legacy continue to inspire future generations.
