Shimmer – Heffron Centre, Maroubra

Shimmer mural by Re-Right Collective at Heffron Park, Maroubra

Project Overview

Shimmer is a series of hand-painted murals by Re-Right Collective artists Carmen Glynn-Braun and Dennis Golding, celebrating the rich cultural fishing traditions of the Bidjigal people. Located at the Heffron Centre in Maroubra on Bidjigal Country, the artwork pays tribute to the migration of mullet, barrow hawks, and stingrays through the Kamay waters at Botany Bay.

Project Details

Painted by Leia Sidery (The Art of Wall) and Jo Breneger (Indigo Jo), the murals were installed with precision and care, working closely with the artists to translate their vision onto the building’s expansive surfaces. The artwork was curated by Cultural Capital and managed by Tilt Industrial Design, as part of a major cultural and community investment by Randwick City Council.

The murals were executed using a shimmering metallic palette that interacts beautifully with natural light—shifting and changing throughout the day to evoke the fluidity of water and movement in nature. The result is a thoughtful, site-responsive public artwork that connects deeply with place, culture, and storytelling.

The Art of Wall acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work and create. In Brookvale, we pay our respects to the Gayamaygal people of the Guringai Nation, and across the greater Sydney region, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation and the many other First Nations communities whose Country we travel through and paint on.
We honour their ongoing connection to land, waters, culture, and storytelling—and extend our respects to Elders past and present.
