the Labyrinth

(Glebe 2022)

By Lilium Bo Dabelle

Project Overview: This stunning mural, created under the name Lilium Bo, was commissioned by clients who were in the midst of renovating their architecturally award-winning home. With a vision to complement the bold, contemporary aesthetic of their space, they wanted something striking for the wall—something that would make a statement but also be resilient against graffiti.

The resulting piece is a vibrant reflection of the labyrinth motif, serving as both a visual anchor for the home and a thoughtful meditation on consciousness. The design’s intricate lines and abstract shapes are not just artistic but practical, designed to engage with the surrounding environment and withstand the test of time.

Project Details: The clients, passionate about enhancing the natural beauty of their home while maintaining an edge against urban disruption, sought out a mural that would be both visually captivating and resistant to the graffiti common to their area. They wanted something transformative, a work of art that would be as timeless as the space itself.

The finished mural effortlessly blends into the architecture, using warm earthy tones to complement the natural materials of the house, while the labyrinth serves as a symbol of connection—to the space, to nature, and to one another. The mural’s bold yet peaceful presence creates a unique harmony, adding depth and character to the home, while the surface treatment ensures it remains pristine despite the urban challenges it may face.

The Art of Wall acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work and create. In Brookvale, we pay our respects to the Gayamaygal people of the Guringai Nation, and across the greater Sydney region, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation and the many other First Nations communities whose Country we travel through and paint on.
We honour their ongoing connection to land, waters, culture, and storytelling—and extend our respects to Elders past and present.
